Yin Elixir

We've fallen a little bit in love with Archeus, an award-winning apothecary in Hawke's Bay. Founder, Georgina Langdale draws on ancient traditions of herbalism, plant energetics and shamanic reiki to create a unique range of creams, serums, balms, mists and plant essences. She calls it Earth Medicine and we're pleased to make selected products available to you here.

Yin characteristics:

passive, negative, darkness, earth, north slope, cloudy, water, softness, female, moisture, night-time, downward-seeking, slowness, consuming, cold, odd numbers, and docile aspects of things.

After much thought and time spent with the Archeus Essences, the following plants stepped forward to be in this YIN ELIXIR.

  • Cleavers (Galium aparine) For the watery aspect of life, being able to go with the flow

  • Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis) Evening Primrose joyously celebrates flexibility of mind and body.

  • Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) Motherwort’s energy is fiercely female.

  • Mullein (Verbascum thapsus)Mullein brings forward the wisdom of elders

  • Silver Birch (Betula alba)Silver Birch also digs down deep into the soil, grounding us with grace and elegance.

  • Violet (Viola odorata) For the watery aspect Violet soothes emotions

.

Plant essences are not fragrant. They work at an energetic level. The deeper we look into Nature, the more she reveals to us, including the ways she can help us with our own soul journeys.

Is there an aspect of your Self that you wish to enhance or focus on for your practice?Archeus Plant Essences & Elixirs can add a beautiful energetic dimension to yoga practice. They can be used in a number of ways:

  • Meditate on that essence prior to your practice and take 2 drops internally and add a drop or two to your water bottle. Picture the aspects of the plant and what they bring to you and your practice.

  • In a studio setting you could create a series of Nature practices – selecting an essence or elixir for the session and put a couple of drops in an aroma diffuser so that its energy permeates the room. At the beginning of class tell your students what the plant is, its attributes, the negative aspects it can help calm and the positive aspects it manifests. You could also anoint students with a drop of the essence.

This is a truly beautiful thing to do, as one is able to picture the plants working with one’s body and mind as you do your practice. It is immensely grounding and adds to that delicious sense of yoga being a moving meditation.

FAQ

What are plant essences and elixirs?

They are homeopathic extracts from flowers, herbs, shrubs and trees created by either the tradition ‘sun method’ or by gentle decoction to capture the energetic aspects of the plant that can help create emotional balance. They are also infused with reiki energy.

Essences are single plant preparations, while elixirs are blended of plant essences.

Many people are familiar with Bach Flowers Rescue Remedy; well Archeus plant essences are produced in the same way. Archeus founder Georgina Langdale studied with the Bach Centre in the UK in the 1990s and has used Bach Flower Essences for many years before developing her own range from plants growing on her property, many of which have a strong feminine aspect.

What do they do?

They gently restore the balance between mind and body by easing negative emotions such as fear, worry, grief, hatred and indecision which interfere with the equilibrium of the being as a whole. They are safe for the whole family including pets and can be used when pregnant.

How do you use them?

A quick way of taking them is to add a couple of drops of your essence or elixir blend to a glass of water or to your water bottle and sip as needed. In acute moments you can place drops on the tongue. You can also use them on pulse and chakra points.

To make your elixir go further you can also prepare a treatment bottle by adding 2 drops of your elixir to a 30ml mixing bottle (one with a dropper is ideal) and fill with spring or rainwater. Add 1-2 teaspoons of brandy, apple cider vinegar or vegetable glycerin (to act as a preservative) to the treatment bottle. From this mixture, take 4 drops (or 2 sprays) 4 times a day in water or direct on the tongue until you feel better.

Are they safe to take alongside other medications?

Yes. They work at an energetic level and do not interfere with other medicines.
